June is the month of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus

My Dear Parishioners,

It is sad that some want to label June as “Pride Month,” forgetting or ignoring those warnings from Sacred Scripture about the deadly sin of pride: every proud heart is an abomination to the LORD; be assured that none will go unpunished (Proverbs 16: 5) and pride goes before disaster, and a haughty spirit before a fall. It is better to be humble with the poor than to share plunder with the proud (Proverbs 16: 18-19).

Thankfully, Jesus and His Church offers us a remedy for the deadly sin of pride and all other sins in Devotion to His Most Sacred Heart.

Traditionally, June is the month of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. This June happens to fall within our nation’s 250th Birthday. So, this weekend, our parish will join our Bishops and parishes around the country in consecrating our great nation to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Our parish will join together in the consecration at the Vigil Mass and our Masses on Sunday. We will pray our consecration at the end of the Prayer of the Faithful.

For those who cannot be with us this weekend, here is the Prayer of Consecration and please join in from wherever you are:

O Most Sacred Heart of Jesus: You are the salvation of the world. You are the sole source of true hope and happiness. You know the longings of our hearts. You desire that we enjoy friendship with you.

From your pierced side, you have poured out the wellspring of divine life. Your heart burns with a love for all people. You will that they renounce sin and return to You.

We celebrate the abundant gifts you have given our nation, founded 250 years ago on the self-evident truths that our Creator has endowed all people with the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

This day we consecrate our nation to Your Most Sacred Heart and again ask for mercy for our country. May our hearts be united to yours, pierced for love, so that our families and communities may know truth, be guided by true wisdom and enjoy peace and happiness and prosperity.

May Your holy Catholic Church serve as a sign, pointing all people to your infinite love. O Desire of Nations and Center of History, we ask you to bless these United States of America. Who live and reign with God the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.

Amen

I also encourage all to renew devotion to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. The promises associated with this devotion are powerful. Time spent with the Most Sacred Heart will only transform the hearts ever more into the likeness of Jesus.

I am including the Litany of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus with this letter. The Litany can be prayed any time. However, First Fridays are the traditional days on which the Litany should be prayed.

May you, your families, and our great nation allow the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus to destroy any pride in our lives and to allow us to become more and more like Jesus. Oh Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make our hearts like unto thine!

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us! Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us!

St. Joseph, Patron of the Church and our Patron, pray for us!
