Making Christ a Reality in the Community in Which We Live 1795 Columbia Avenue, Warrington PA 18976 (NE Corner of 611 and Easton Road) Rectory: 215-672-3020 (9AM - 4PM Mon to Fri) Pastor: Rev Joseph C. Bordonaro Pastor Emeritus: Rev. J.A. Grant Deacon: Decon Karl Hartmann

My Dear Parishioners, HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY! I hope you enjoy the day celebrating the goodness, love, and nurturing that comes from our mothers. We recently celebrated our parish May Procession and during the ceremony I asked our young people why we honor Mary and of course they said because she gave birth to Jesus. One student even said because Mary was Jesus’ first and best disciple. But we also honor her because she was his teacher as well. He learned about love, mercy, forgiveness, and suffering from his Blessed Mother and Saint Joseph. Mary taught Jesus what it means to sacrifice and submit to the will of God, because she had done so herself. So many of our mothers have sacrificed for us, today we honor them and their memory. Last week we had an important announcement from Archbishop Chaput regarding the priests placed on Administrative Leave. As of the writing of this column, we still have no word on Fr. Bowe’s return. I ask that we continue praying for him and all those affected. Along with Archbishop Chaput’s statement we were provided with some materials regarding the situation. I have posted on our bulletin boards and made available copies of the archbishop’s statement, a listing of the 9 priests and the decisions regarding their cases. I also posted an executive summary of the plan for parish restoration which is a program to provide help and support to parishioners as they come to terms with these issues and a way to move forward. The church is trying to be sensitive to the understanding that issues of abuse affect many people and may bring up difficulties that need to be acknowledged. It is understandable if someone is struggling with these issues in their own life, that the news of priests being deemed suitable or unsuitable for ministry would cause one to have a negative reaction or to relive things that they would rather not. We ask for prayers for all those suffering and we ask God to lead us through this darkness into His light. Finally we were provided with an elongated listing of the 9 cases that were decided. This is a listing of all the assignments where these priests were stationed. I am having this documentation along with the others posted on our website www.saintjosephchurch.us. Please check the site for further information and links to the Archdiocesan website. If these issues bring up difficulties and you would like to talk, please feel free to contact me.
May God Bless You,
Fr. Bordonaro

Treasures From Our Tradition The month of May has not only good weather, but an interesting pedigree. It is named after the Roman goddess Maia, said to be the mother of Hermes, or Mercury. The Romans saw it as “love’s month,” while in England, more practical farmers called it “Three Milks,” since the cows grazing on springtime’s bounty could produce at a phenomenal rate. Old customs die hard, and Christians have never made peace with Maytime frolics. No wonder that popular tradition dedicated the month’s prayers and devotions to Mary, although we cannot lose sight of the fact that the liturgy always has Easter at the center of celebration. Recent developments have enriched Mary’s place in a cycle of feast days woven through the whole year, dedicated Saturday as a weekly day for devotion, and highlighted Mary’s role in the Advent story. In fact, every day of the year Evening Prayer centers on the singing of Mary’s Canticle of Praise. The fifty days of Easter culminate on Pentecost with Mary, present of course for Christ’s birth, waiting in the upper room for the birth of the church. —James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
Mary, Our Mother May is the month dedicated to our Blessed Mother. We honor her for she is the masterwork of the mission of the Son and the Spirit in the fullness of time. She received God’s word in the purity of her heart and, conceiving in her virgin womb, gave birth to our Savior and so nurtured the Church at its very beginning. She accepted God’s parting gift of love as she stood beneath the cross and so became the mother of all those who were brought to life through the death of her only Son. She joined her prayers with those of the apostles, as together they awaited the coming of the Spirit, and so became the perfect pattern of the Church at prayer. Raised to the glory of heaven, she cares for the pilgrim Church with a mother’s love, following its progress homeward until the day of the Lord dawns in splendor. Mary, Mother of the Church, Pray for us and our families “May Devotions” Monday through Friday: Many stay after 8:00am Mass to pray the Rosary. Why not join them? Monday Night: During May, at 7:30pm, we pray the Rosary during Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and conclude with Benediction. Saturday Morning: After 8:00am Mass, we pray the Miraculous Medal Novena and the Rosary. Saturday Evening: to prepare for Sunday’s Vigil Mass, parishioners pray the Rosary at 5:00pm.

The Rite of Baptism has a Blessing for Mothers: “God the Father through His Son, the Virgin Mary’s child, has brought joy to all Christian mothers, as they see the hope of eternal life shine on their children. Happy Mother’s Day “A Mother’s Prayer” God, give me wisdom to see that today is my day with my children, That there is no unimportant moment in their lives, May I know no other career is as precious, No other work so rewarding, No other task so urgent. May I never defer it nor neglect it. But by the Spirit accept it gladly, joyously and by thy grace realize, that the time is short and my time is now, For children won’t wait!
